Now that fall has arrived, we’re able to escape the summer heat and take advantage of the cooler temperatures! This means more chances to take advantage of the perfect workout weather, whether you want to go for a brisk walk, or a good run, or even lift weights outside in your backyard!
Here’s how you can capitalize on this great time of year as you run outside:
Less about the look, more about the feel
We all love a stylish outfit, one that screams that we’re trying to change our lives and become more fitness minded each and every day, but we have to remember it’s not the most important thing. For example, your sneakers or “tennis shoes” or “running shoes,” whatever you may call them, should be looked at, first, based on their level of comfort and durability, rather than their design or price tag. The right shoes will have a huge impact on your ability to make the most out of a run or walk. You’ll be able to put your all into your workout and help avoid injuries such as plantar fasciitis, blisters and heel spurs.
Lift weights and build your strength
Running or walking outside requires much more strength and durability than walking on a flat and consistent surface that you would find using something like a treadmill or stepping in place. When you’re working out outside you encounter everything from hills to uneven surfaces, to soft, wet ground that may require more exertion than you realize, especially if you’re lucky enough to be walking or running on a sandy beach! By lifting weights in between your outdoor workouts, you’re building your stamina, your strength and adding muscle to your body that is going to help burn more fat in between workouts.
Are you excited for the cooler months yet?! Maybe not for the snow that follows, but at least the couple of months of a nice cool breeze with little humidity! But either way, if you love working out outdoors, consider the above tips and make the most out of your fall exercises!
